If you find yourself lost in Lucama, the small eastern North Carolina town where Vollis Simpson lives, you might discover the rural crossroads where the bulk of Vollis's giant windmills reside. Ever since this WWII veteran settled in North Carolina to open a heavy moving equipment business, his fields have slowly grown clusters of wind machines and whirl-a-gigs, some 40 and 50 feet tall. His artwork ventures beyond this small town, too. One of Vollis's sculptures is the centerpiece for the Baltimore Visionary Museum. At Home Gallery has worked with Vollis over the years to bring his windmills, big and small, to many collectors around the country.
